[Benedikta watches him carefully, reading every shift in his expression and the way that he stares down into his cup. There are things that he is withholding from her, and while she will let it go for now, she does not forget that. Specifically about that technology, as she knows that this world had once been far more advanced than it is now, so something like that is not so farfetched.]

A small item? ... Would you say, then, that the Beacon Boxes are similar in nature to this object that you used?

[ Sorry, Benedikta. He would be willing to help in the ways that he can. As in, develop what he knows. However, G'raha can't necessarily give people that sort of power, even if he trusts them wholly. It's a legacy that's not really his to give. ]

They, perhaps, could be used. It depends on how large the passage between worlds is.

[garudas]

[She gives a small but tight nod, and silence reigns in the room for a moment, broken only by the clink of her teacup as she takes a sip of it. It takes her a bit to sort through her thoughts, trying to think of where she would like to go with them next. It is a bit concerning that Darin's idea might actually work, but there are other things that can be done.

After several more beats of it, Benedikta finally speaks.]

Cidolfus had spoken to me about the possibility of severing that connection. I think it may be similar to what you had done, but the opposite.

[afflatusexarch]

[ His ears flick a bit as he becomes lost in thought. Raha's tail swishes about behind him. Severing the connection... ]

You wish to make it cease working.

[ Rather than try to control the artifact that's supposedly causing this. It's an interesting thought. ]

What of those who would wish to return?

[garudas]

Whatever "it" is.

[Benedikta stiffens ever so slightly at his question, and while she does not answer truthfully, it is not exactly a lie, either. Merely an answer very specifically tailored to this one issue.]

Cidolfus and I only wish to sever our own ties to our world. What becomes of the others who wish to return or stay matters little to me.

What if the connection cannot be severed?

[ It's another question that needs to be asked. There's a chance that it could be much like Voidgates. When one is closed, another one will just appear somewhere else. ]

[garudas]

Then I will have to find alternatives to that solution.

[Alternatives that she is already looking into, but we aren't going to talk about that. 🙂]

But it is our best option for now. I've no idea how we are to do it. Perhaps it has something to do with some item tied to us, and our worlds. Similar to these "beacons".

[afflatusexarch]

The best option is to understand the magicks and technology at work first. As we do not know how, precisely, this all works, everything that we are speaking of is conjecture.

[ He knows it's not the answer that she's wanting to hear more than likely. But at the same time... ]

I would like to think we'd at least offer people a chance to return home first. If they would desire to do so.

[garudas]

[She stares at him for a few silent moments before she asks—]

Do you have that desire to return home?

[He is rather focused on that one point, so it does beg the question. She might be feeling a little defensive as well, even if she is not saying it, because no. That was never part of her plan.]

[ Now G'raha sits in silence for a moment. He picks up the teacup and takes a drink, looking at the table rather than Benedikta. Then he breathes in through his nose and releases a sigh. ]

At one point, I would have immediately answered that I do desire to return to my star. Now, however, I find myself quite conflicted.

[ He sets the cup down and looks at the woman in front of him with a slight smile. ]

I have made connections here that I do not wish to lose. You are one of them, if you wish to know.

[garudas]

[She will wait.

There is the slightest awkward quirk of her lip before she tears her gaze away from him at the sincerity of his comment. It's not something she knows what to do with, even now, and so she turns it back around on him. She picks up her tea and takes a long, loud siiiiiiip.]

I'd figured as much, given that ring on your finger.

[afflatusexarch]

[ And it's that reaction that makes him. Hesitant. About asking her to address him by his more intimate name. He's not sure how she will take it in the end.

Now G'raha nearly chokes on another sip of the tea when she mentions the ring. He sets the cup down, coughing a moment and then fussing with the object. ]

I... Yes. He is a rather large part of my. Ahem. Indecision.

[ His ears are back. Face is red. Happy, but also flustered. ]

[garudas]

[Lucky for him, she won't tease him much (yet), besides that knowing raise of her brow and that second long siiiiipppppp of her tea. She will, however, let him fuss about it.]

So you are still not certain if you would wish to return or stay. If given the choice tomorrow and you had to choose one or the other...

[She knows that it's a loaded question, but she is trying to make a point here.]

[ He feels that gaze, Benedikta. Of course she is going to want to say something. Likely tease him. That long sip of tea just kind of... Yeah. It tells Raha all he really needs to know. ]

I would stay.

[ Because he doesn't want to leave Zack here. Alone. If there's a guarantee that he could bring the other with him, then the answer might be different. ]

[garudas]

So then you understand why we are doing this.

[She sighs.]

Cidolfus and I have nothing to return to. Cutting off our "tether" to our world is the only choice we have, it is just a matter of finding the way to do so.

[afflatusexarch]

I understood from the beginning, Benedikta.

[ His tail swishes behind him. It's true, though. Raha does understand why she would want to. He knows that there are several individuals from their star that no longer have a place to return to. It's much the same for Zack. Cutting themselves off in that way would guarantee that they'd never be pulled away from this star. ]

Yet I still believe the best method is understanding the magicks or the technology. You deserve your happiness, yes, but others do as well.

[garudas]

Well. The former is what I am working on. The technology, I cannot boast to know anything about.

[That is what her dearest husband is for.]

I intend to follow the trails that lead to the Ancients, as I believe they hold not only the magic but the combined knowledge of how I might achieve it.

[She says nothing about the "others".]

I brought you here with the hopes of picking your brain about it, as well as asking if you would like to assist in my endeavours to do so. I have several trails and leads I intend to follow, but doing so on my own is... a big task.

[And it is taking a lot for her to ask other people for help. She's making big strides!!! We are just not going to talk about the rest of it.]

[afflatusexarch]

[ He tilts his head to the side as he continues to listen to her speak. Eventually, he puts the cup down. Raha reaches across the table to take a hold of her wrist. A supportive hold!

And a squeeze. ]

Benedikta, I will help you in whatever capacity I am able. You are my friend. How could I do anything less?

[ Of course he does have a condition, but she likely knows that already. ]

[garudas]

[There is a slight but very annoying pang of guilt as well as a bit of surprise when he reaches out to take her wrist under his hand, and she lets it linger for only a moment beyond that squeeze before she gently slips it away.

Clearing her throat, she takes a sip of her tea to drown out that feeling, and with an awkward clearing of her throat, she sets her cup back down.]

Yes, well. I figured that you could do with a bit of a challenge. You seem the type. It would be a shame if your mind grew rusty.

[afflatusexarch]

[ Oh he won't chase her hand. G'raha is aware that she is not really the touchy-feely and affectionate sort. So he just chuckles a little as she pulls back. He also finishes up his tea. ]

Oh I will not deny that I do enjoy a good challenge. It has been a touch frustrating, what with all of the answers still being quite elusive even after all this time.

[garudas]

[She feels her cheeks grow warm at his little chuckle.]

While I do not boast to know much about this world as some others, there are some things I do know. Particularly of the Ancients, as that is where my interest currently lies. So, should you wish to know, or if you find anything...

[afflatusexarch]

To be fair, I am interested in it all. This star holds a lot of secrets. There is much to discover if we want to learn what happened here and how to prevent it in the future. If there is anything that I have learned, it is that the past will eventually find its way back to the present.

[ So yes. He wants to know everything that she knows. And then some! ]

[garudas]

Perhaps that will be for another time. Another day for a different pot of tea.

[She pours herself some more, only glancing at him through her lashes as she sets the pot down in front of him should he wish for more.]

So. When is the wedding?

[Just going to come right out and ask.]
